On July 2, 2004, the Commonwealth Court placed L&H into liquidation due to its financial insolvency.
On June 4, 2007, the Liquidator filed a petition in Commonwealth Court seeking the discharge of the Liquidator and distribution of the assets of the estate.
Sale of business
Prior to its liquidation, L&H sold a large block of traditional life business to:

Covered Claims
Depending on the nature of a claim and L&Hs license status in the claimants state as referenced above, a claimant may be entitled to the protection of the state guaranty association. Contact information for state guaranty associations is referenced at the bottom of this page.
Claims in Unlicensed States
If a claimants state is not listed above, the claimant should contact Pennsylvanias guaranty association for information regarding claim coverage. Contact information for state guaranty associations is referenced at the bottom of this page.
Policy Cancellation for Virgin Island Residents
Because the USVI does not have a guaranty association, any policies for USVI residents will be cancelled 30 days from the date of liquidation, on the normal expiration date of the policy or upon the effective date of the replacement of coverage, whichever is earliest. Under no circumstances will any policies in the USVI be in force after midnight August 1, 2004.
Proofs of Claim
Currently, the Statutory Liquidator is accepting proofs of claim from claimants including agents, general creditors and vendors. In order to be considered timely filed, proofs of claim must be received by the Liquidator no later than July 6, 2005. Proof of claim forms are not necessary for claims for policy benefits. Proof of claims forms will be mailed to all known agents, general creditors and vendor within thirty days from the date of liquidation.
